"God's Little Acre" by Erskine Caldwell

God's Little Acre is a 1933 novel by Erskine Caldwell about a dysfunctional farming family in Georgia obsessed with sex and wealth. The novel's sexual themes were so controversial that the New York Society for the Suppression of Vice asked a New York state court to censor it. The novel was made into a film of the same name in 1958. Though controversial, the novel became an international best seller with over 10 million copies sold.   The novel is Caldwell's most popular novel, though Caldwell's reputation is often tied to  Tobacco Road which was listed in the Modern Library 100 Best Novels.

"Tuesdays with Morrie" by Mitch Albom

Tuesdays with Morrie is a memoir   by American writer Mitch Albom.   The story was later recreated by Thomas Rickman into a TV movie of the same name directed by Mick Jackson, which aired on December 5, 1999 and starred Jack Lemmon and Hank Azaria. The book topped the New York Times Non-Fiction Bestsellers of 2000. An unabridged audiobook was also published, narrated by Albom himself. The appendix of the audiobook contains several minutes of excerpts from the audio recordings Albom made in his conversations with Morrie Schwartz in preparation for writing the book. In 2007, the 10th anniversary of the book's publishing, a new edition with an afterword by Mitch Albom was released.

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy   (sometimes referred to as HG2G ,   HHGTTG   or H2G2 ) is a comedy science fiction series created by Douglas Adams. Originally a radio comedy broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in 1978, it was later adapted to other formats, including stage shows, novels, comic book adaptations, a 1981 TV series, a 1984 computer game, and 2005 feature film. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy has become an international multi-media phenomenon. The novels are the most widely distributed, having been translated into more than 30 languages by 2005. "La sombra del viento / The Shadow of the Wind" by Carlos Ruiz Zafón

The Shadow of the Wind (Spanish: La sombra del viento ) is a 2001 novel by Spanish writer Carlos Ruiz Zafón and a worldwide bestseller. The book was translated into English in 2004 by Lucia Graves and sold over a million copies in the UK after already achieving success on mainland Europe, topping the Spanish bestseller lists for weeks. It was published in the United States by Penguin Books and in Great Britain by Weidenfeld & Nicolson and Orion Books. It is believed to have sold 15 million copies worldwide,   making it one of the best-selling books of all time. Ruiz Zafón's follow-up, The Angel's Game , is a prequel to The Shadow of the Wind . It was published in Spanish in April 2008 by Planeta and then acquired by Weidenfeld & Nicolson; Lucia Graves published a hardback English edition in June 2009. The Angel's Game is set in Barcelona during the 1920s and 1930s and follows a young writer who is approached by a mysterious figure to write a book.

"The Martian" by Andy Weir

The Martian is a 2011 science fiction novel written by Andy Weir. It was his debut novel under his own name.   It was originally self-published in 2011; Crown Publishing purchased the rights and re-released it in 2014. The story follows an American astronaut, Mark Watney, as he becomes stranded alone on Mars in the year 2035   and must improvise in order to survive.   The Martian , a film adaptation directed by Ridley Scott and starring Matt Damon, was released in October 2015. In a starred review, Publishers Weekly said that "Weir laces the technical details with enough keen wit to satisfy hard science fiction fan and general reader alike."  Kirkus Reviews called The Martian "Sharp, funny and thrilling, with just the right amount of geekery."   The Wall Street Journal called the book "the best pure sci-fi novel in years."   Entertainment Weekly gave the novel a grade of "B", describing it as "an impressively geeky debut novel...
